Couple reveals their joy after naturally conceiving triplets following a miscarriage

A couple’s heartache turned into joy when they naturally conceived triplets following a miscarriage – and they were born on their sibling’s original due date.

Alison O’Leary and Chris Deasy, both 32, from Dublin, were devastated when they discovered that they wouldn’t be welcoming a baby into the world on her due date of August 2, 2019.

But two months later, they found out that they had naturally conceived triplets, who were born 31 weeks later on the exact date that their sibling was originally due.

Hairdresser Ali said: ‘I was upset when the triplets were born prematurely but when I realised the date a few days after, I immediately felt better.

‘It made me realise it was meant to happen and somewhere, someone is looking out for me. I am still in disbelief as it all happened so fast. It feels like I blinked and now I have six-month olds.

‘It has been the hardest work ever with many sleepless nights but totally worth it. We can tell Lenny and Ted apart now, but at the start I had to paint their toes different colours, so we didn’t get them mixed up.’

Ali and Chris, who is a car salesman, stopped ‘actively trying to conceive’ following the miscarriage at six weeks in November 2018. But in January, a pregnancy test revealed two lines.

She said: ‘When I lost the baby, it knocked us both so we took some time out. We were absolutely devastated. I couldn’t control my emotions.

‘It is very hard to explain, I felt guilty as there’s always someone out there who is worse off. My emotions would come in tidal waves and I didn’t know how to deal with them.

‘But two months later in January 2019 I didn’t have my period and I had a pregnancy test in the drawer, which was positive. We were so shocked and delighted but didn’t tell anyone in case anything bad happened.

She added: ‘We were super cautious so booked in for an early scan at seven weeks to put our minds at rest. We were given double good news when we were told there were two healthy babies.’

But there was a shock in store when the 12-week scan revealed Ali was pregnant with triplets.

She added: ‘I was in hysterics, Chris struggled to see the funny side when the doctor said there’s three babies. I think he was thinking about finances, but I immediately felt giddy.

‘I couldn’t believe my eyes and felt spoilt to have them. I think because I’d suffered the heartbreak of the miscarriage, I just took it all in my stride and was calm about everything.

‘The fact I was pregnant with three babies instead of just one, or even two, didn’t faze me at all.’

Ali’s waters broke on July 31 but Lenny, Ted and Bruce didn’t arrive until August 2. The besotted parents couldn’t believe the coincidence and thank fate for their bundles of joy.

‘I wouldn’t change it for the world and Georgia is the best big sister. When they are older we will tell them the significance of their birthday and how extra special it is.’
