Vera Wang was defended by fans after she was ‘skinny shamed’ on social media.
The 70-year-old designer shared a photo of herself on Instagram yesterday to mark her latest collection being shown at New York Fashion Week.
However she was soon criticised in the comments section by followers who insisted she is ‘too thin’, with one bluntly saying she ‘needs to eat more’.

While they claimed to be writing out of concern for the designer’s appearance, other fans were quick to hit back – accusing them of ‘body shaming’.
The photo at the centre of the row shows the designer on set of the rehearsal for the runway show.
She was snapped in a signature look of black leggings and a long vest top, which she paired with chunky platform heels.

The heated thread was kicked off when one Instagram user wrote: ‘She needs to eat protein and lift weights.’
The comment received a flurry of responses, with one saying: ‘I think you need to not body shame for starters and who the heck are you anyway? Her friend? No! You’re some random on the internet.’
Another posted: ‘It’s none of our business. Speculating about this is really rude.’

A third wrote: ‘She’s 70, leave her alone.’
However the original poster was defended by some in the comments.
‘She’s giving her positive and wholehearted input and concern in giving her some advice,’ she said. ‘So you need to calm down.’
